Longer story…..

Have you met my friend Kevin?

The background story, told to me and I believe them…3430 built by GMW Doug Laber and Larry Liggett in their first batch of 10 boats.  Owned by Ted Fontelieu then Ed John, it settled in Cooperstown NY before being brought to Newport Rhode Island.  I rescued it from garage storage and began to sail in the 2019 season.  Kevin and I won our first Chevrons was we became the 2019 New England District Champions.

During the winter of 2020 Kevin was stripped of all his hardware, had his Stanchions replaced, wood all sanded and varnished, hull flipped, sanded, buffed and polished.  He received a new CB gasket, hiking straps and new lines for his rigging.  The stingers were strengthened and a new coat of epoxy paint was applied to the interior along with all new inspection ports riveted in.  Lots of work was completed as Covid had slowed the world down and time was plenty.  New Sails were ordered and if you look in a bagpipe you can see the process of making Kevins’ Spinnaker.

Kevin has since won his second NE District Championship, finished 2nd 3 times at the Archipelago Rally, competed in the 2021 Nationals, 2023 Midwinters East and actively held his own in the growing Newport Fleet (regularly finishing in the top three).

Some specs…

All lines are less than 4 years old and modern dynema braids.  Splicing, lightweight low friction rings and harken ball bearing blocks are used throughout the boat.  There are adjustable Intensity Hiking straps and a double ended boom vang.  Shrouds have Staymasters and the jib is sheeted through JibMaster 3’s.  The Centerboard is well shimmed and snug in the trunk.  Sail controls color coded and led to 45’s (Top-Jib fine tune halyard, Pole up, Cunningham Below-Twings).  Traveler controls led to side rails on custom mounts.  Rails are in excellent condition and could be stunning if varnished by someone who knows what they are doing.

The last round of work on the boat before 2023 Midwinters included: Flip, sand, buff and polish. New CB Gasket. New flotation foam. New Main Halyard and Cam Cleat.  Cleaned and painted trailer, New Hubs, bearings and wheels.  New custom rear bunk.  Quick sand and varnish.
