Land Activities: If there’s one thing you can be sure of about this event, it’s that you’ll have a great time while on land. While some members of the Westport Mafia excel on the race course, all of us equally excel at treating our friends to an excellent party. We have several social functions planned for after racing, and are all listed later in this issue of the Bagpipe. A host of additional land activities, including organized ping pong and bocce tournaments will last throughout the week. With several large yards and two small beaches, the club grounds provide ample space for games and activities of all kinds to take place. The club has a gated playground for children and a self service bar for adults. Although the lack of pool won’t allow for the pool pentathlon, we’re sure the creative fun of the Thistle class will be at an all time high. The organizing committee will also include in each regatta packet, information regarding activities outside of the club with directions and contact information. Area attractions include an aquarium 10 minutes away, the amusement park Rye Playground roughly 30 minutes away, a minor league baseball team 10 miles north, and various parks and museums all within a short drive. Fairfield County has plenty of restaurants and bars that will accommodate any taste and budget. In addition, the Westport train station is only a couple miles from the club with hourly service to New York City and the surrounding area. Rye Playland |
